A Lot Can Happen in 5 Days

Well it took us 2 days to finally adjust to sleeping at night and being awake during the day! We finally found some wifi thanks to the twins and were finally able to watch Gilmore Girls! We ate all our junk food and yes we teared up a bit, we just needed a hug after we watched the last episode.

Get Us the Hell Out of Pauinui

Finally got wifi after 3 weeks! Sorry another super long one probably best to just skip this post all together, I would!

First day at the bakery was a success! We didn’t screw up the whole day until the end of the day where we were told we were a distraction, typical. We worked with 2 kiwis, a German, and a person form Holland (I have no idea what you call a person from Holland). At the end of the day we got to take home all the baked goods that were not sold, we came back with so much bread.

Off to Pauanui

Our last days with Mike were super eventful. He put us in charge of taking a van to get its warrant of fitness. We had no problem driving there or to the grocery store before hand but once they were done looking at the car they couldn’t put it into gear, we were stuck! It was ridiculous we were at a garage with mechanics and no one could help fix the van. We called Mike but he rarely has his phone so there was no answer. We ended up having to call Patrick over Facebook calling to get help. He spoke with Steph, who was with us to get food for baby Pia.

Maggie Writes

Hi. It’s Maggie, Paris’ lifeline here in New Zealand. Guess you guys are stuck with me for the next blog post.

This past week has been quite busy. We started off with a catering job last Friday for a corporate event. And we actually arrived on time! Mainly because Christine (catering boss) told us to come to her place first and then we would all drive together… cause we’re Americans and don’t know what the hell we’re doing. These corporate people really know how to have fun. There was an AMAZING bouncy obstacle course!!!

Building the Things

So we have started working for Mike (O.G.) refurbishing VW vans and it’s pretty cool! There is more oil and grease on our jeans than there is blue and our hands are full of oil, cuts, fiberglass, and covered in plasters (what they call bandaids here) but we have never been happier. Everything we use apparently is poisonous, we haven’t touched a jug that hasn’t said poison on it, so who knows what we are inhaling, but we are going strong regardless.

A Holiday from our Holiday

Well we took Paggie Waggie on her first road trip! We drove down to Waitomo to see the glow worm caves! It was so cool you had to be completely silent (we all know how hard that is for me) and it was like looking at a million starts but inside a cave. They are one of the coolest animals. There is another species of them that live outdoors and not in caves found on the south island which we might try to go and find.

Thanksgiving

New Zealand Thanksgiving was a success! We got a late start due to all the water problems so we actually got to eat at around 8 but that’s ok! We had a loaf of turkey, that’s the best way to describe it; they don’t sell turkey all year round they only sell it around Christmas. We had 3 forms of potatoes roasted, mashed, and fried. Carrots in brown sugar, Alfie was a fan of that one he had never heard of that before. Olivia brought wine and made the British version of stuffing; it was essentially a meatball made with pork spices and onions, really delicious.

Mike, Mike, and Mike

Living in a van is the best, why we didn’t do this sooner in our lives is a mystery. We are basically human turtles, we take all our crap where every we go. If we get tired, no biggy, pull over take a nap in the back. Running out of sunlight on a crazy adventure, no problem your home is already there. Buying groceries at the store go directly from the cart to the kitchen. It’s by far the best way to get rid of any stress in life at all.
